Learning from The Tree of Life

Hello My Dear Readers,

I´ve just stepped out of the movie theater where I had the chance to watch THE TREE OF LIFE, starring Sean Penn and Brad Pitt, two great actors. However, this particular movie is completely different from what American movies are usually like.

It´s sort of psychedelic as it makes you go back in time and in the realms of microcosmic imaginary worlds as well as traveling back and forth in the story somehow making you disoriented as far as what the purpose of the movie is all about.

The term psychedelic is derived from the Greek words ψυχή (psyche, “soul”) and δηλοῦν (deloun, “to manifest”), translating to “soul-manifesting”. A psychedelic experience is characterized by the perception of aspects of one’s mind previously unknown, or by the creative exuberance of the mind liberated from its ostensibly ordinary fetters. Psychedelic states are an array of experiences elicited by various techniques, including sensory stimulation, sensory deprivation as well as by psychedelic substances. Such experiences include hallucinations, changes of perception, synesthesia, altered states of awareness, mystical states, and occasionally states resembling

On one hand, I would really recommend it due to its originality, but on the other hand, it leaves a lot to be desired for those who enjoy something logic and sensible. If you are in the latter category, I suggest that you do not watch this movie – it may be tedious and extremely exasperating for you, especially toward the end of it.

Approaching it from the perspective of life itself, the movie has beautiful and wonderful imaginary landscapes whose background music  allows you to literally go on a trip and leaves you in awe with the exuberance of nature and its powerful motion pictures.

It´s a movie for you to watch totally unattached from sequence and let it flow by enjoying whatever comes next without any sense of prejudice or judgement, just pure enjoyment. As I am a movie buff, I believe it has given me another distinction of the creativity of the authors and producers, which for that matter partially came from Brad Pitt, one of the main actors and by the director Terrence Malick.

Now whether you´re going to see it or not, it´s entirely up to you.

If you do so, enjoy it.
